The talk also places emphasis on the campaigns by civil society organizations, committed academics, and other actors in support of the full implementation of the WFD to protect water sources and against the attempt by some governments and business lobbies to reduce the scope of the directive and soften regulatory controls. It refers to the recent ratification of the WFD by the European Commission.
